This past Sunday, Jeff Gordon won a NASCAR-record fifth Brickyard 400, twenty years after his first win at that storied Indianapolis racetrack. And he did it in his trademark No. 24 Chevrolet car. According to USA Today, it was a continuation of Chevrolet dominance at the Brickyard that is also celebrating its twentieth anniversary.

Of the last 21 NASCAR events at Indianapolis, Chevy has won 16, 11 of which were consecutive victories. Last year, six of the seven top finishers at the Brickyard 400 – including the winner, Ryan Newman – were driving Chevrolet cars.

Chevrolet Dominance at the Brickyard

This 2014 Chevy SS is similar to what Jeff Gordon drives in NASCAR races.

Driver Kevin Harvick, when asked why Chevy cars are so good, said, “I think it boils down to the teams. Chevy has a lot of great teams, obviously, and everybody puts a lot of effort into this race. It kind of sets the tone for the second half of the year and the Chase.”
