Chevrolet has always been a technology innovator amongst the ranks of automotive manufacturers. They are continuing that trend with the 2015 Chevy Impala by making stop/start technology standard.

Stop/start technology, for those of you who don’t know, shuts down the engine during certain driving conditions to reduce overall fuel consumption by the car.

“Stop/start system customer research indicates they want the engine to start up as quickly and smoothly as possible after a stop,” said Mark Meyers, Chevrolet Global Vehicle Performance manager in a GM press release.

Stop/Start Technology is already standard in the 2014 Chevy Malibu… the 2015 Impala is next

This may seem like a no-brainer, but it speaks to a chief concern of engineers as well; after all they are developing a computer system and programming that system to be advanced enough to recognize situations where the driver shouldn’t need the engine, but then quickly changes his mind.

While the stop/start technology is already standard on the 2014 Malibu, Chevy’s team of engineers at the Center of Excellence are constantly working to improve it. One major improvement has been in the area of noise and vibration reduction.
