Cops for Tots is a nonprofit run by residents of Miami County and dedicated to bringing assistance to local children in need. While Cops for Tots works throughout the year to offer help with school supplies, clothing, food, and other emergency needs, Christmas is the busiest time of the year for them.

Cops for Tots donationsThrough their Angel Tree program, Cops for Tots ask local families in need for gifts on their children’s wish lists, school supplies they need, and any other necessities, then decorate cards to hang on their Angel Tree and invite the community to help out by buying the items on the cards for the residents.

Barb Fisher, the chair of the program, said this year was an unprecedented year for the Angel Tree. There were 396 angels on the tree this year, down from last year’s 424, but only 18 cards were left on the tree whereas over 130 were left last year.

The police forces of the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and departments of Louisburg, Paola, and Osawatomie came together to deliver gifts to all the families. The 18 remaining angels received gifts courtesy of Cops for Tots.

The organization also holds a yearly auction to help fund the Angel Tree program and their other services.
