What makes a horror film is exciting and fun to watch? Flawed characters making mistakes in a world full of dangers. If they were perfect characters, we wouldn’t be able to relate to them. But sometimes, they just do the dumbest stuff. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could warn them of the dangers?

A recent Chevy commercial directed by Sam Raimi shows us what this scenario might look like. In case you don’t know, Raimi is responsible for the Evil Dead franchise, which are horror movie classics.

As you could see above, the Chevy commercial directed by Sam Raimi stays true to his MO and takes the form of a horror movie trailer. A young woman moves cautiously through what seems like the most haunted of haunted houses ever. There is nothing subtle about it. Shadows appear and disappear everywhere. Ghosts hover menacingly.

At some point, she begins to approach a mysterious white door. It’s happening. She’s making that classic horror movie mistake that leads to death and misery.

Suddenly, voices cry out from off-screen. It’s the audience! They cry out warnings, admonishing her not to open that door. She is surprised but ultimately obliges. Danger averted.

Now, when you think about it, this kind of intervention could ruin a good movie. But in real life, it would be awesome. And that’s exactly what the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu can do with its active safety features.
