When you think of polishing your car, you might think of chrome hubcaps and trim; however, when it comes to the Silverado, Chevy has even managed to polish the crankshaft. We here at Lang Chevrolet are always impressed by Chevy’s attention to detail.

Polishing the Chevy Silverado crankshaft is not for cosmetic purposes, despite what some might think. While looking perfect to the naked eyes, engine parts usually have small imperfections that can make the engine work harder.

“There are good reasons behind this polishing,” said Anthony Lewandowski, manufacturing engineer at Tonawanda Engine. “Micropolishing the crank’s journals improves the oil film’s consistency to reduce friction and improve the EcoTec3’s reliability and durability over the life of the truck.”

By having a perfectly balanced and fine-tuned 5.3-liter V-8 EcoTec3 engine, trucks like the new Silverado will have no problem generating tons of power. This procedure increases the pickups performance, allowing for more torque and over 355 horsepower, according to Chevy. The 5.3-liter V-8 EcoTec3 is also available in the Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Sierra.
